Yes, your student must be home schooled to participate with the Mavs. We take our teams to the National Christian Home School Regional and National Tournaments, and therefore follow their eligibility requirements. See NCHC site for details.

“KSHSAA” stands for “Kansas State High School Activities Association”, the organization that regulates high school athletics in the state of Kansas. We are “KSHSAA Approved”, which means although we are not part of any particular KSHSAA league in Kansas, we are eligible to compete against public schools, private schools, and other home school sports organizations.

Metro Academy - KSHSAA

KSHSAA Complete Explanation of Approved School Status

Our preference is to schedule public school, private and home school teams throughout the regular season, with the season culminating at the National Christian Home School Tournament (usually held in Springfield, Missouri).  But if needed we will take advantage of local leagues such as GABL and places like Okun Fieldhouse to supliment and make sure we have a full schedule of games.

For our 12u boys we will have a 25-30 game schedule.  For our jr high 14u boys we like to schedule 30-35 games. For our high school boys & girls teams we like to schedule between 40 to 45 games per season, more than twice the number of games public or private schools typically play.  This includes our post season National Home School regional and national tournaments which are the culmination of our athletic teams seasons.

Volleyball games are scheduled from mid-August through October.

12u boys and girls basketball will begin late October and will end in mid-March.

14u boys and girls basketball will begin in late October and will end in mid-March.

High School boys and girls basketball practice will begin in early October with games scheduled from early November until mid-March.

Our teams typically schedule one or two trips as far as Wichita or Springfield, MO, during the regular season. But most travel and overnight stays happen during our end of season regional and national tournaments. All of our teams will participate at nationals which are usually held in Springfield, MO over a week long period in early March. Travel expenses are the responsibility of the parents, but our players often carpool and/or share rooms to minimize expenses.

Our Volleyball and basketball teams practice at Homefield Courts in Olathe.

Early morning, usually 6:00am to 8:00am beginning in August. The days that practices will occur are usually Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, but that will vary once game schedules begin

All of our basketball teams will practice in the early mornings between 6:00am and 8:00am.  Because Metro Academy does not own or operate our own facilities we must rent available court time in area facilities.  We have found a very supportive home at Homefield Courts and to keeps expenses as low as possible early mornings have proved to be the best option available.

The high school basketball teams begin morning practices in early October and go till mid-March. They will practice Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday & some Saturdays from 6:30-8:30AM. For our 12U and 14U teams they will practice 2 or 3 times a week, days will vary based on the coaches schedules. For all of our teams there will usually be no practices on game days.

The boys high school team offers free Open Gyms from early July until mid-October (check the calendar)

The boys high school team has also participated in a summer league sponsored by the Livin The Dream in June through mid July.

The volleyball team typically offers summer camps for junior high and high school girls in late July and/or early August.

No. The Mavs organization is 100% dependent upon volunteers, and we have been blessed with a consistent staff of excellent and experienced coaches. All of our high school head coaches have been with us since the inception of the program in the early 2000’s. Our assistant coaches consist of either parents or young adults who originally played for us, and are now “paying it forward” to the next generation of athletes.

Metro Academy is a competitive sports program and playing time is strictly at the discretion of the coach based on the coach’s decision about what will make the team most competitive. Please read the Parents Guidelines Section.

Athelets Frequently Asked Questions

Our practices have a specific purpose behind them as well as a limited amount of time. It is essential that each member of a team be on time. Being “on time” means arriving at least 15 minutes early to warm up and stretch.

Be prepared! Wear appropriate attire and bring all necessary equipment.

Walk on the court or field with a GOOD ATTITUDE. Be positive, intense, determined, focused, and ready to go! GO AS HARD AND LONG AS YOU CAN IN EVERY PRACTICE.

Communicate with your coach should there be any personal or physical matters which will negatively affect your performance that day.

If you are unable to attend a scheduled practice, game or event, let your coach know as quickly as possible. Please be sure to enter your coaches’ cell phone numbers into your phone contacts so you can text them quickly when necessary.

If you are ill or injured, we ask you to attend all practices so that you can learn from the coaches’ instructions. If you have a fever and/or are contagious, please stay home, but let the coach know you will not be there.

Anytime you need to speak to any of the coaches about a challenge or concern, please schedule a convenient time for a meeting or phone conversation. It is critical that any conflict or problem be resolved or worked out for the unity of the team. Discussions should take place at appropriate times and in proper settings. Unless previously scheduled, please DO NOT attempt to discuss a problem with the coach during or immediately after a practice or game.
